Edging
Edging is a green method that holds the lower bank of the site in place with natural materials (NOAA Fisheries, 2020). A potential solution using this method is a brush mattress.
Brush mattresses consist of a layer of live branches that have been interwoven and laid on a bank with brush or rock at the base. The live branches are cut from nearby trees, usually willows or dogwoods, and are held in place with twine and stakes (Allen et al., 2001). Brush mattresses immediately slow the water surrounding them and become more effective over time as they accumulate sediment and begin sprouting new plant life (Frothingham, 2007).
This solution will help support a successful ecosystem because the growing vegetation offers protection and a habitat for local species (Allen et al., 2001). They are best used on moderate slopes with around a 1.25:1 horizontal-to-vertical ratio and they should also be in locations where the mattress can be kept moist enough to grow.

Decision Matrices Results:
Dublin Hollow site: 2.82 / 5.0

Dam site: 3.52 / 5.0

Pros:
1. Good habitat potential
2. Optimal wave protection
& easy installation at the
Dam site
Cons:
1. Expensive
2. Poor wave protection, hard to maintain & install at Dublin Hollow Site
